Retired Sheriff's Captain Tom Redmond Endorsed Sheriff's Captain Paul Miyamoto for Sheriff

Sheriff’s Captain Paul Miyamoto earned the endorsement of Retired Sheriff’s Captain Tom Redmond and The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Alameda County. Miyamoto, a third generation San Franciscan, is the only candidate running for Sheriff who actively serves as a law enforcement official.

Paul Miyamoto, a 15 year veteran of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, had this to say, “It is exciting to earn the endorsement of a very well respected member in the law enforcement community, as well as the endorsement of an organization that represents the women and men of one of the best Sheriff Departments in the state. These endorsements show that the people believe the Sheriff needs to be well versed in law enforcement, and not necessarily an expert in politics.”

Tom Redmond joined the Sheriff’s Department over forty years ago and worked his way up to the rank of Captain before retiring.  And much like Miyamoto he carries on a long family tradition of public service.

Captain Miyamoto has run San Francisco’s toughest maximum security jail.  In addition, he has served as Commander of the Institutional Patrol Unit and Investigative Services Unit (Criminal and Internal Affairs) of the Sheriff’s Department and has served as Commander, Special Response Team. San Francisco Sheriff’s Captain Paul Miyamoto Outraises Chris Cunnie

San Francisco Sheriff’s Captain Paul Miyamoto’s Campaign to Sheriff bests Ross Mirkarimi’s campaign in most recent filing period –

San Francisco, CA – Sheriff’s Captain Paul Miyamoto’s campaign announced today strong fundraising totals in the race to succeed San Francisco Sheriff Michael Hennessey. The Miyamoto campaign filed a California Form 460 yesterday which covered the period from July 1 to September 24, 2011.

To date, the Miyamoto campaign has raised a total of $162,286–$27,703 more than former police association head Chris Cunnie.  Sheriff’s Captain Miyamoto’s momentum continues to mount, having raised over $100,000 since July. Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, the only candidate in the race currently serving in office, trailed Sheriff’s Captain Miyamoto this period having raised $85,234.

Sheriff’s Captain Miyamoto had this to say: “We are invigorated by our momentum. I have said since Day One that we will have a fully funded campaign, and we are on track to meeting our fundraising goals. The deputy sheriffs have worked tirelessly to make Sheriff Hennessey’s vision a reality, and now through donating their time and money, they have shown beyond any doubt that I am their choice to continue that legacy.”

“It’s impressive that the only active duty law enforcement officer in this race has outraised a City Hall insider and a politically connected former cop”, said Marjan Philhour, the campaign’s Finance Director. “Ross Mirkarimi’s eight years in City Hall and Chris Cunnie’s big name endorsers do not seem to have translated into fundraising success for either campaign.”

Sheriff’s Captain Miyamoto has served as Commander of the Sheriff’s Institutional Patrol Unit and Investigative Services Unit (Criminal and Internal Affairs) of the Sheriff’s Department and has served as Commander, Special Response Team. He was elected SFPD Police Academy Class President and has served as a Senior Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant and now Captain within the Sheriff’s Department. He lives in San Francisco with his wife LeeAnn and their five children. Miyamoto earned a BA in History at the University of California, Davis and attended Lowell High School in San Francisco.
